Many different government departments and programs including but not limited to Departments of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Developmental Disabilities, and Childrens Services have advisory councils that participants, stakeholders, and sometimes even community members can join to provide input for these large government organizations. Sometimes these programs can be an important way for community members and stakeholders to influence policy and programatic decisions. Sometimes State and Federal Regulations require and regulate these councils.
One that recently came to my attention is the Knox County Schools Regional Family Council. Learn more about this opportunity here.
