History of DOE Sites – SRNL in Aiken South Carolina

Savannah River National Laboratory

The Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina was first constructed to produce the basic materials necessary in the fabrication of America's nuclear weapons. Five reactors were also built in an effort to produce materials for our Nation's defense programs. Since that time the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) has continued to have success in developing a multi-program portfolio with continued emphasis on deployable solutions.  In many instances in applying their expertise to assist the environmental management mission across the Department of Energy Complex.
